Philadelphia has a thriving food scene, so full of amazing restaurants it’s hard to keep up. That being said, having to try a list of great Philly restaurants isn’t the worst task in the world.  We’ve put together a list of 6 must-try restaurants in Philadelphia that we think are top notch (some of which are hidden gems) – be sure to visit as soon as possible.

6. Marigold Kitchen

Executive Chef Keith Krajewski leads the team at Marigold Kitchen, who recently took the #2 spot in Philadelphia Magazines ’50 Best Restaurants’ list. Their imaginative menu is always evolving and rotating – stop by after 6pm Tuesday – Saturday for a dinner that’s sure to leave you satisfied.

5. Vientiane Cafe

We can sum up Vientiane Cafe in one word: authentic. This is a small, family run restaurant offering up the best in Lao and Thai cuisine. If you’re vegetarian or vegan, they have plenty of options – but if you’re not, you pretty much HAVE to try their Lao Beef Jerky, pictured above.

Here’s a look at a vegan option: the green curry with vegetarian tofu and vegetables. There’s a reason that this place is considered one of the great Philly restaurants in the western part of the city.

4. Bistrot La Minette

Bistrot La Minette is the creation of Chef Peter Woolsey, bringing the true Bistrot experience to Philadelphia for all to experience. As far as French food in the city goes, Bistrot La Minette is as good as it gets. The gnocchi, duck, and pork cheeks are all delectable. It’s also a great spot to sample some amazing wines.

With ingredients like summer truffles, how can you really go wrong?

3. Ela

On top of the approachable, innovative dishes served, Ela offers a fantastic craft beer, wine, and cocktail list. It’s rustic setting provides the perfect backdrop for an evening out, stop by and enjoy the ever-changing menu.

2. Vetri

Vetri is one of the most respected Italian restaurants not just in Philadelphia, but in the country. Vetri has a tasting menu-only format to fully showcase the constantly evolving, dynamic creativity of Chef Vetri and his kitchen staff. The wine cellar boasts over 2,500 bottles, focusing on Italy but with options from both the Old World and the New.

1. R2L

Where to begin. R2L is a sleek, sophisticated restaurant led by Executive Chef Daniel Stern. Their blend of creative American cuisine takes ordinary ingredients and turns them into something other-worldly. Signature dishes include grilled truffle flatbread, lobster mac & cheese, steak tartare, variations of lamb and skate wing with fettuccine. It’s one of the most well-known great Philly restaurants.
