When you think Milwaukee, you probably think of beer. And though Milwaukee is home to some of America’s finest beverages, it’s also got some butt-kicking barbecue spots to check out. So if you’re in town and looking for some great spare ribs with a couple sides, then this list is for you.
7. Carson’s Ribs of Milwaukee
Carson’s was built around the goal of serving big portions of great food at a reasonable price. Let’s just say that Carson’s lives up to that goal night in and night out. The owner, Dean Carson, puts his heart and soul into the restaurant and you can see it reflected in the food and service.
6. Ono Kine Grindz
Hawaiian barbecue in Milwaukee? Yep, and it’s awesome. The Char Siu Chicken, and Kalua Pig are two dishes that anyone who calls him or herself a foodie needs to try.
Two things are a priority at Pitch’s, (i) great barbecue and (ii) Packer’s football. If you’re looking for some babyback ribs with a great atmosphere, then this is the place for you.
4. Smoke Shack
Located in the historic quarter of downtown, the Smoke Shack is a great place to grab some BBQ. The Smoke Shack serves only local and grass-fed meat. This commitment to quality makes the shack a MUST visit if you’re in downtown Milwaukee.
3. Pat’s Rib Place
One of the most home-like atmospheres of any barbecue place in Milwaukee. Alisha is so friendly and will make sure your meal is everything you came for: delicious. Make sure to grab some of Alisha’s sauce on your way out so you can have some of the goodness at home with you too!
2. Saz’s State House Restaurant
Saz’s has been in business for 40 years, and for good reason. It’s won more accolades than any restaurant I think I’ve ever seen. If you stop in, go with the Texas BBQ Combo, it’s got 12-hour smoked beef brisket, 1/3 rack of ribs and spicy smoked andouille sausage – you can’t lose here!
1. Ashley’s Que
Ashley’s Que is the sister restaurant to Ashley’s Barbecue. This location offers great service, beers, and of course mouth-watering barbecue. It’s very reasonably priced and a local favorite for all Milwaukee locals. You must visit when you’re in town.
