Deep Ellum is a cozy hipster gastropub in Allston that plays good music and serves great beer. Everything from a hoppy English India pale ale to a Irish style stout. Make sure to try their bratwurst and pretzels.
5. The Publick House
The relaxed ambiance of The Publick House makes it a great place to grab a bite to eat and a drink with friends. The long list of draft beers renders it nearly impossible to sample every single one, but there’s no harm in trying.
4. Lord Hobo
Located in Cambridge, Lord Hobo boasts an impressive beer and cocktail menu, one of the best in the city. Their food menu is top notch as well. Don’t forget to order some lobsta rolls and polenta fries while you’re there.
Meadhall knows their stuff when it comes to gastropub grub and craft beer. Not to mention it feels like you’re sitting in a real mead hall. It’s best to show up early in order to snag a seat; the Cambridge crowds fill this place up quickly at night.

Bukowski Tavern, located on Dalton Street, is as Boston as a bar can get. Locals can’t get enough of the beer selection and the cleverly named menu items. Think white trash cheese dip and the pregnant hot dog.
1. Sunset Grill & Tap
Allston’s Sunset Grill & Tap is one of the most unique bars in Boston for many reasons, but mostly because of the notable and ever-evolving beer menu. If you can’t decide by reading the expansive list, you can choose from the multitude of bottles that are up on the bar wall.
