Without further ado, here are the five states in question:
5. New York
Take a moment, think of your answers – and when you’re ready, scroll down.
1. Washington – Airplanes
While airplanes and airplane parts are the top export for a dozen states, Washington leads the pack for airplane exports. With Boeing headquartered out of the state, airplane exports are likely to continue for years to come.
2. Nevada – Gold
What did you think the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino was named after? Nevada currently mines 79% of all of the gold in the United States, making it one of the largest sources of gold in the world.
3. Idaho – Chips
No, not potato chips – although potatoes do rank as the 19th largest export in Idaho – think memory chips. Boise is home to Micron Technology, the only US manufacturer of DRAM (dynamic random access memory) chips.
4. Maine – Lobster
People all around the world want to eat Maine’s famous lobster, and the amount exported yearly continues to grow. China, in particular, has just recently discovered the delicacy that is Maine lobster. From 2009-2014, exports of live lobster from the US to China grew from $2.1 million annually to $90.5 million. Talk about growth.
5. New York – Diamonds
Cut diamonds remain one of the largest exports, while rough diamonds remain one of the largest imports in New York. The most unusually shaped rough diamonds always end up in New York City, making it the top place in the world for diamond sales.
